Divining the depths of the swamp of neuroses swirling in Donald Trump’s diseased mind is a DIY obsession for psychiatric professionals and observant amateurs who know crazy when they see and hear it.
The latest hard evidence that the president is not “all there” aired Monday night on Fox “News.” In an hour-long orgy of mutual adoration, Trump sat down with Laura Ingraham, host of “The Ingraham Angle,” which kicks off the network’s nightly propaganda programming pioneered by Sean Hannity and Tucker “Blood and Soil” Carlson.
Trump pushed his increasingly unconvincing characterization of Democratic nominee Joe Biden as a senile puppet of sinister anti-American radicals to new lows of cynicism and desperation.
“I don’t even like to mention Biden because he’s not controlling anything,” Trump said ominously.
Always on cue, Ingraham asked, “Who do you think is pulling Biden’s strings? Is it former Obama officials?”
“People you’ve never heard of, people that are in the dark shadows,” Trump replied.
“That sounds like a conspiracy theory,” Ingraham said, inadvertently injecting some truth into an hour devoted to fortifying the fantasy world Fox feeds its zombified viewers.
“They’re people you haven’t heard of,” Trump explained. “They’re people that are on the streets, people that are controlling the streets.”
One of these “shadow people” boarded a plane from “a certain city” last weekend, Trump said. The mystery plane was “loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that.”
Likely fearing what Trump might say next but stuck asking, Ingraham pressed for details.
“I will tell you sometime, but it’s under investigation right now,” Trump said.
Earlier in the hour, Trump said this about continuing protests in Portland: “Portland has been burning for many years, for decades it’s been burning.”
Riffing on the recent shooting of Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man shot seven times in the back by police, Trump framed his response to a question about police safety in his area of expertise — golf.
“You know, I mean, in the meantime, he might’ve been going for a weapon. And you know there’s a whole big thing there,” Trump said. “But they choke, just like in a golf tournament, they miss a 3-foot putt…”
“You’re not comparing it to golf,” Ingraham interjected, trying to steer her beloved president away from the cliff. He didn’t take the Mulligan.
“I’m saying people choke,” Trump said. “And people are bad people. You have both. If you have some bad people and they choke. You could be a police officer for 15 years and all of a sudden you’re confronted. You’ve got a quarter of a second to make a decision. If you don’t make the decision and you’re wrong, you’re dead. People choke under those circumstances and they make a bad decision. I’ve seen bad decisions of people that, it looked bad, but probably it was a choke. But you also have bad police, but you also, the vast, not only the vast majority, but thousands and thousands of great acts, and you make the evening news for weeks.”
In review, Joe Biden is controlled by shadow people who rule the streets and fly around on mystery planes loaded with thugs in black uniforms and excessive force used by police against American citizens is akin to missing a gimme putt at one of Trump’s golf courses.
And Biden is the one who’s lost his mind.
