With the General Election five short days away, pollsters and pundits are calling Pennsylvania a keystone for victory for either candidate. The candidates and their frantic campaigns clearly see us that way, too.
President Trump is hosting COVID-19 superspreader events across the state, including a Monday night dust-off at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Running behind former Vice President Joe Biden in every reliable poll, Trump is barnstorming the nation to fire up his base while Biden is reaching out to Republicans in Georgia and Florida.
As The Times-Tribune reports here, the Biden campaign plans events in “all four corners” of the state on Monday. Biden, his wife, Jill, and Sen. Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, will spread out across the commonwealth to urge weary voters to go the polls on Tuesday.
The campaign hasn’t released further details, but if Scranton isn’t Biden’s last stop, they need to adjust his schedule. Scranton has been a keystone of Biden’s 2020 campaign and a handy touchstone throughout his near-50-year career in politics. The city is almost sure to vote for a native son, but Joe needs to put his campaign where his mouth is. The “Scrappy Kid from Scranton” should come home and bring Jill, Sen. Harris and her husband with them.
And if a certain ex-president with a funny name and a supreme talent for roasting Trump isn’t busy, bring him, too.
