I’m addicted to face mists.
I don’t know why there’s an entire beauty category of water in a spray bottle with botanicals, oils, actives and other added benefits to make our skin soft but I am here for it.
I have a whole bunch of face mists I use throughout the day for a little pick-me-up. Sometimes, after my midday spritz, my editor will comment on how she feels like she’s in the produce aisle at Price Chopper. With all the forced air my skin is exposed to (air conditioning in the car, at my house, at work) my skin feels parched and treating myself to a spritz like I’m a fresh, leafy green is how I thrive. Face mists work to add moisture back into your skin and you can use them as a toner step, as an essence or to refresh makeup. You also can use it just because.
Here are a few of my favorites.
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist
The scent is clean and light and green tea, rice and algae provide skin radiance. It also includes squalane for nourishment and hydration. Our bodies recognize squalane since it’s present in our skin already (it’s what makes baby skin so soft!) so absorbs fast and completely. I have a few bottles of this mist, full-size and travel-size, that I keep with me at all times to refresh tired skin, as a nourishing toning step, prep for makeup or give a hydrated glow.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender
Everyone knows about Mario Badescu’s cult rose mist version but this lavender one is just as good. With calming ingredients like aloe and chamomile this mist will soothe red, irritated or tired skin. The dreamy, light lavender fragrance also makes it perfect to spritz on before bed.
Glossier Soothing Face Mist Rosewater Spray
A super light scent, this smells like a bouquet of roses whispered in the next room — just what Glossier ordered. This is the perfect spray for every day. I keep this on my desk year-round and mist whenever I feel dry. I also love to spritz this on before I mask as a gentle way to drive ingredients deeper.
Wren Natural Rose Water Toner
This can be used as a toner or skin prep step but with Wren’s natural ingredients including organic witch hazel, aloe vera gel and organic rosehip infused distilled water, it’s a great refresher and soother. Use this after a workout or on super hot days at the beach, pool or any outdoor summer activity.
Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist
From science class, you know water molecules move from areas of high concentration to low. After a shower, the water on your skin is going to evaporate into the air and take some of your skin’s moisture with it, leaving you drier than before you got in. This mist is ultra hydrating and softening with coconut water, hibiscus flower, witch hazel and natural AHAs and BHA. Spritz this on your face as soon as you get out of the shower and before you start any skin care rituals to lock in moisture and create a perfect base to better absorb serums and treatments.
***Pearlessence Coconut Rose Hydrating Face Mist is an almost exact dupe, down to the packaging, for a lower price.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir
This is boujee and a little pricey but ingredients include rose extract, rosemary essential oil, benzoin, myrrh, orange flower water and Caudalie’s signature grape extract. This mist feels like a spa in a bottle. Use this before a big night out or during a self-care session for a shot of radiance to your skin.
Too Faced’s Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray
This is for exactly what it says it is. The morning after one-too-many, spritz this on. Made with coconut water and probiotic-based ingredients, this can be used as a primer before makeup, a setting spray or a refresher.
While skin mists might not do a whole ton, sometimes some things just make us feel good. And we should keep doing what makes us feel good.
