I’ve heard Attorney Gen. Bill Barr called many things (corrupt, soulless, marsupial…), but never a “tool of the Deep State.”
Dead-end Trumpists and crybaby conservatives turned on Barr on Tuesday when he dared acknowledge the plain truth: There is no evidence of voting fraud “on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.”
Trump lost. Fair and square. Barr said so. Because it’s true.
If any credible evidence to the contrary existed, Barr would have found it and used it in service to his infernal master. He has dutifully served Trump’s selfish interests from the moment he swore an oath to serve the national interest. If Barr could deliver for Trump in the waning days of his Potemkin presidency, he surely would. It’s not that he won’t, but that he can’t.
For those of us who live, think and work inside the confines of Objective Reality, any instance of Barr speaking truth is a welcome surprise. For diehard deplorables and Trumpists of Convenience, Barr’s simple declaration of fact is grounds for immediate ex-communication from Cult 45.
The shunning of Barr came swiftly and from the highest precincts of Trump World. Lou Dobbs, Fox Business Network’s premier purple-faced purveyor of impotent rage, stopped just shy of branding Barr a traitor.
“For the attorney general of the United States to make that statement, he is either a liar or a fool or both,” Dobbs bleated. “He may be, um, perhaps compromised. He may be simply unprincipled. Or he may be personally distraught or ill!”
All that abuse for simply telling the truth, something Trump Himself forced Barr to do. When the soon-to-be-ex-president suggested that the FBI and the Justice Department were somehow complicit in the “rigging” of the election, the rank and file predictably took righteous offense. Barr had a choice: Back Trump’s scandalous play and face a mutiny from federal law enforcement professionals, or say what anyone outside of Cult 45 knows — Trump is mentally ill and lashing out anyone who won’t pretend he won the election.
Barr made the choice he could afford, and is now paying the consequences. All the skullduggery Barr performed in Trump’s name was erased by a single instance of fealty to the truth and the rule of law. In Trump World, loyalty is a one-way street. Bill Barr is just the latest sap caught in the crosswalk when Trump motorcade of mendacity came barrelling through the intersection of MAGA Lane and Crybaby Boulevard.
Trump didn’t even tap the brakes.
