Thirty-seven senior Girl Scouts left Scranton to attend a gathering of Girl Scouts in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 30, 1959.  This gathering was called the Roundup.   

The young ladies along with scouting leaders were honored with a farewell ceremony at the Lackawanna Station before they left. Scranton Mayor James Hanlon and Scranton Chamber of Commerce President John Barrett both offered remarks during the ceremony.

The flag pledge is recited at Lackawanna Station by 37 senior Girl Scouts and adult leaders on June 30, 1959 as they departed on a DL&W train for the National Girl Scout Roundup in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Gail Piazza, a scout from Clarks Summit, served as a correspondent for the Times while the young ladies where at the Roundup. She sent back articles detailing events and photographs.
